Using Groups to Support Recovery from Mental Illness and Addiction

Through June 3, 2018
UChicago Center in Delhi

Begins
Jun. 1

This conference brought together an intimate group of colleagues with experience in different aspects of the use of groups to support recovery from mental illness and addiction. As coordinators of the conference, Dr. Deborah Spitz, Dr. Jeffrey Roth, and Dr. Suma Jacob demonstrated four key uses of groups: group psychotherapy, group relations (the study of group and organizational dynamics), trauma focused therapy and mutual support groups like Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon. All of the participants also brought their own areas of expertise, and shared their areas of interest with each other, since we believe that the power of groups lies in the sharing of the resources of all of its individual members.

Dr. Suma Jacob, Dr. Jeffrey Roth and Dr. Deborah Spitz from the Department of Pyschiatry and Behavioral Neuroscience at the University of Chicago were the key organizers of this conference.

The event was by invitation only.
