Theaster Gates, Professor, Department of Visual Arts at the University of Chicago creates work that focuses on space theory and land development, sculpture and performance. He redeems spaces that have been left behind, bringing the conversation of space to the forefront of contemporary art practice to bridge the gap between art and life. In all aspects of his work, he contends with the notion of Black space as a formal exercise - one defined by collective desire, artistic agency, and the tactics of a pragmatist. He was the winner of the Artes Mundi 6th prize, the Nasher Prize for Sculpture 2018 and is the recent recipient of the Legion d'Honneur, awarded in 2017.


This event was held in collaboration with NITI Aayog under "Road to GES 2017", the Chicago Booth Alumni Club of India and the UChicago Alumni Association and features Booth Alum Kelly Gushue, Founder & CEO of Personal Finance Warrior, as she shared the why and how of her decision to leave asset management to start her own personal finance startup.

The South Asian Civilizations in Pune program is a civilization-based program designed to provide students with the unique opportunity to examine the history, culture, and society of the South Asian subcontinent in a major Indian city.
At the center of this intensive, ten-week program is a three-course sequence taught in English by University of Chicago faculty. 


Centre for Interdisciplinary Inquiry & Innovation in Sexual and Reproductive Health (Ci3), in partnership with MAMTA-HIMC, hosted a 4 day workshop from November 6 -10 at the University of Chicago Delhi Center to play test games on sexual and reproductive health issues with young people from urban slums of Delhi.

Sanjeev is the Co-founder of Naukri.com, India’s leading job site. The company also runs Jeevansathi.com, 99acres.com, and Shiksha.com. In addition it has made strategic investments in promising web start-ups such as Policybazaar.com, Meritnation.com, Zomato.com, Canvera, and Happily Unmarried. Sanjeev graduated from IIM Ahmedabad in 1989 and quit his job for entrepreneurship eighteen months later. For the first seven years he drifted and did a number of small businesses – from salary surveys to databases, to feasibility studies, to training. Finally in 1997 the company launched Naukri.com and transformed itself into an Internet company.


India's border regions are currently the sites of conflict and confrontation, involving both insurgencies and international politics.

This event featured a panel of experts discussing the current security challenges that India faces in Kashmir and the Northeast and in its relations with neighbouring countries.

The 17th International Conference on Maharashtra (ICM) took place on 6-8 January 2017, at the University of Chicago Center in New Delhi. Since 1983, the ICM has regularly brought together scholars in Maharashtra Studies in different disciplines, and from across the globe. Conducted approximately every two years, alternating between sites in India and in other countries, the Conference facilitates intensive, inter-disciplinary discussion on one focused theme of relevance to the region.
