An investor focused roundtable on “K-12 Education,” jointly hosted by the Michael & Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) and Impact Investors Council (IIC).
The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation (MSDF) has been a strong supporter of large scale improvements in learning levels of children from low income families in urban India for the last 10 years. A few years ago, they started supporting high quality, market based solutions in education and added investments to our suite of funding structures.. With a portfolio of 6 direct investments and 3 fund investments focused on education, and after having evaluated several companies in this sector, MSDF realized that there are some inherent challenges in the sector in terms of pace of scale up, margins and financial sustainability, measurement and importance of quality, as well as investor interest. Interestingly, there are also some innovative and workable solutions that companies have adopted in order to be successful. To discuss some of these existing and potential solutions, MSDF hosted an an investor focused roundtable on “ K-12 Education” jointly with Impact Investors Council (IIC)
Through this forum they hoped to engage in stimulating discussions and provide a platform for:
• Discussing challenges and solutions in scaling up education ventures that serve low-income populations
• Recognizing role of government as a buyer of products and services and identifying effective ways of tapping this market
• Measuring impact in a low cost, standardized manner and using it as a lever for securing large scale contracts
• Identifying specific market gaps, if any, and how they can be catalyzed
This event was by invitation only.
