This  talk held in collaboration with Shiv Nadar University will be delivered by Mr. Maheep Thapar, MD, ADAPT Consultants who would look into the overall challenges and the possible options and directions to take to enable us to plan and manage better which would be critical to ensure the cross sectoral integration and the effectiveness of planning cities.

As the country progresses towards the goals of an Urban India the dynamics of economic growth, urbanisation, quality of life and environmental conservation have become more and more enmeshed. Sustainability becomes even more difficult as cities grow bigger and bigger over time and more and more difficult to run and manage. While policies and programs on urbanisation have gained strength in the last decade or so and focus is also shifting to the smaller cities and towns of India, it is important to get back to the basics of who we are planning for. The human angle would need to be deeply re-examined and brought back into the core of the planning debate.

Mr. Thapar graduated from SPA, Delhi followed by a Post Graduation in Urban & Regional Planning from CEPT, Ahmedabad where he was also awarded a gold medal for the “Distinguished Student” award. With around 18 years of experience in professional practice he has led numerous urban planning assignments on behalf of ADAPT. ADAPT is a Consulting Company employing urban planners, architects, engineers and GIS experts.
