This event featured a discussion on art, politics, and the traveling life of culture around the novel The Firebird with Saikat Majumdar and Jonathan Gil Harris.

Jonathan Gil Harris is Professor of English and Dean of Academic Affairs at Ashoka University. He is the author and editor of several books on Shakespeare and early modern English literature, and most recently, the best-selling The First Firangis: Remarkable Stories of Heroes, Healers, Charlatans, Courtesans & Other Foreigners Who Became Indian (Aleph Books, 2015).

Saikat Majumdar teaches world literature at Stanford University and is a visiting faculty member at Ashoka University. He is the author of a novel, Silverfish (2007), and a book of criticism, Prose of the World (2013). The Firebird (2015), his widely acclaimed new novel, tells the story of the vanishing world of Bengali popular theatre as seen through the eyes of a young boy and his actress mother.
